With the recent update, you’ll need to know how to share an Instagram post on your story.
The reshare feature allows you to share other people’s posts on your own story without worrying about copyright or simply send that post to someone you know in their DM.
It was a simple task with a simple solution. Tap the paper plane, select how you wanted to share it, and boom, done.
Those days might be gone.
You can still create awesome content and style your stories with our help.

What you need to know
Instagram added a new “Reshare” sticker to the app. I don’t know if this will be a permanent change, and personally, I really hope it’s not. The new feature feels clunky and annoying, adding more steps to what was a really simple process.
You can still share posts with your friends or groups the same way, just using the paper plane icon.
According to Instagram, the purpose of this is to make users “more intentional” about what they share.
“People tell us that they prefer original Stories content over reshared posts, so we’re testing a new way to reshare w/ stickers. Our hope is that people will be more intentional when they share, which will create a better Stories experience for everyone.”

How does it work now?
Here is a quick step by step guide for you:
1. Tap the “+” icon on your Instagram homepage.
2. Select “Create” on the left side menu.
3. See the smiley face icon on the upper part of the screen? Tap it.
4. Hit the “Reshare” icon.
4. You’ll be shown posts you recently viewed, with the option to select from your saved posts or content you posted originally.
5. Now you can share the story as you normally would.
I mean, normally you would do that in 2 seconds and be done with it, so it’s not really the case.
Will I be able to share an Instagram post as before?
Well, the new feature is a test, and maybe you don’t even have that enabled on your account. Instagram usually distributes those tests to a portion of users to see how we accept them.
So there is a chance that they will revert those changes or implement a whole new way to do it.
What happens if the feature stays for good?
The bad part
Note that this is based on my opinion and experience with the feature so far, so other people may have different views on this.
Firstly, you could be really annoyed lucky and have to use it and get used to sharing content that way, as I am. And I enjoy the new method to share an Instagram post on your story
Secondly, I am sharing a lot less content after this was changed and I don’t feel good about it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not about being lazy to follow the five steps (there is definitely some of that).
For example, I am used to sharing a lot of content on my stories, this is content from artists that I love, most of which I know in person and that are my friends. Some I just love for their work and would like other people to know them too.
Art is an awesome experience and while I understand that people prefer original content on stories, the chances of them getting to know new artists from their friends are getting lower and lower with this update. Wouldn’t that content be original and unique to them?
The good part
If things go as Instagram plans, users will create more original content, and followers will enjoy and share that content despite the method.
The platform also believes that people will only share things that really matter to them.
“We’ve seen from research that people prefer to see original photos and videos in Stories from the people they care about,” Instagram said in a statement. “The goal of our test is to better understand how people feel about this type of content and ultimately improve the Stories experience.”
You might enjoy the new feature, and if you do that is great!
You want to share an Instagram post on your story the old way
At the moment there is no way to choose how you want to do this and they probably won’t give you a choice.
The best thing to do in this case is to be vocal about your opinion on this change. Tag Instagram on your posts about this, head to Twitter, and tag them in a tweet. Instagram rolled back a few changes in the past based on user experience. It’s not common, but it happens!
Improve your content to balance this out
As this change is affecting you or will be in the near future I recommend that you start looking for more options to create content and improve your engagement.
With great content, people won’t think twice about sharing your posts, so let’s focus on improving what we already have!

Final thoughts
As a social media platform, Instagram knows that users like things to be done fast and simply.
We’re in the age of information and technology, things are bound to be done faster and we like it that way.
In my personal opinion, this update is a strategy to get more people to Reels. With many platforms such as TikTok, Snapchat, Kwai, and many others building up the competition, Instagram wants more original content in the platform. They have a lot of content, but a big part of it actually comes from those apps and is reposted there.
In my eyes, changing this actually affects people who don’t create content often, and that is definitely fine. People who share a lot of content are responsible for a big part of the reach and engagement for many pages.
